Salkantay Trek and Machu Picchu

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa

You will be picked up from your hotel at 4:00 AM to leave to Mollepata, where you will have breakfast. From here one you will start to walk to Cruz Pata. In Cruz Pata you will have some time to rest. The walk continues to Soraypampa, which is your first camp. If you wish, you can easily visit Lake Huamantay from the camp. Lake Huamantay is surrounded by a beautiful glacier, the reflection on the lake makes it a magical place. After the visit to lake Huamantay, you will return to the camp and have dinner.

Day 2: Soraypampa – Collpabamba – Chaullay

On day 2 you will have to wake up very early to take breakfast and leave camp at 7:30 AM. When you arrive at Collpabamba you will have lunch. At the summit you can see the with snow covered Verónica and Salkantay mountain tops. After lunch you will descent to the cloud forest jungle at 1750 meters above sea level. At this altitude of the trek you are able to appreciate varieties of orchids as well as rivers and waterfalls of great magnitude. After an arduous hike you will arrive at Chaullay where you will have dinner and stay the night.

Día 3: Chaullay – Aguas Calientes

Before starting the second days hike, you will have breakfast in Chaullay. After breakfast you will start walking, along the way you will see lush plantations such as coca. The coca leaf was a sacred plant for the Incas and used in religious ceremonies. Currently, the coca leaf is still consumed, valued and respected in the Andean and Amazonian areas. Here you will have a stop for lunch. After lunch you will have transport to Hidroeléctrica. From there on you will start the 11-kilometer journey to Aguas Calientes. When you arrive at Aguas Calientes you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cusco

It is worthy and recommended to arrive early to Machu Picchu in order to appreciate the spectacular sunrise. Therefore, you will get on the bus to Machu Picchu at 5.00 AM. When you arrive at Machu Picchu, you will have a guided tour of 2 hours around the most important points of the archeological site. At the end of the guided tour you will have some time to discover Machu Picchu by yourself by for example visiting Wayna Picchu. In the late afternoon, you will return by train to Ollantaytambo where private transport will await you to take you back to Cusco.
