Day 1: Ninamarca – Paucartambo – Acjanacu

You will get on the bus very early to get to Acjanacu. On the way, you will pass by rural communities and valleys. The first bus stop and place to visit is the pre-Inca tomb of Ninamarca. The bus ride contintues to the typical colonial town of Paucartambo. When you arrive to Acjanacu, you will start to walk through the jungle, an area rich in endemic species. On the way you will have a quick stop to have lunch (box lunch). After lunch you will continue to walk until reaching your hostel, located in the middle of the Manu National Park where we will spend the night comfortably installed.

Day 2: Pilcopata – Atalaya

On day 2 you will continue your trip by bus to get to Pilcopata. You will be crossing the high jungle of Pilcopata and the town of Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River where you will have lunch. After lunch you will start to walk down the river until reaching the private reserve “Erika”, in the reserve you will walk adventurous trails through the jungle. The guide will tell you about the species around you like birds, reptiles, insects, medicinal plants, etc. You will have the option to do canoeing on the tropical river of Kosñipata, passing through the Pongo de Koñeq. Arriving at Atalaya you will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 3: Manu Cultural Zone

After breakfast the guide tell you all about the wildlife and biodiversity of the surroundings. Thereafter you will get on a boat to cross the Alto Madre de Dios River. Getting of board, you will walk for approximately 30 minutes until reaching the Machuwasi lake where a telescope will be installed to observe bird species such as heron, toucanetas, crestirojo carpenter, bienteveos, cardinals, etc. As an additional option you can walk through the trees to observe the wildlife of many of the species that inhabit the Manu National Park. In the afternoon you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Manu National Park – Cusco

In the morning of day4 you will get on a boat to get to Collpa; a clayey wall of the river where different species of parrots come down every morning to extract pieces of clay with nutritive minerals. At the end of this activity, you will return to your lodge for breakfast. After breakfast you will get on the boat to Puerto Atalaya, where your bus awaits you to drive you back to Cusco.

Tour Description

The Manu National Park is considered as one of the largest and richest natural reserves in the world; it hosts countless numbers of species, including bears, jaguars, parrots, orchids, insects, etc. The reserve allows intimate contact with nature in its most primitive and wild state. It was created in 1973 to conserve the biological diversity of the rainforest of southeastern Peru. It cooperates with regional development through research, as well as the recognition and protection of cultural diversity and the self-determination of the indigenous peoples of the area. Located on the western edge of the Amazon basin, in the departments of Cusco and Madre de Dios, covering the entire Manu river basin.
