Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Abra Málaga – Santa María

You will be picked up from your hotel between 05:30 – 6:00 AM to leave to Ollantaytambo. From here on, you will start to walk to the highest point of the trek, the Abra de Málaga at 4400 meters above sea level. At the summit you can see the with snow covered Verónica and Salkantay mountain tops. At the summit you will be provided with bicycles other necessary equipment for the descent which takes approximately 3 hours. You will pass through beautiful villages, trails, small waterfalls and streams until reaching Wamanmarka, where you will have lunch and afterwards the option to visit the archaeological site of Wamanmarka. The trek continues along the Inca road to the town of Santa María, where the first night will be spent. In this town you will have the option of rafting on the Urubamba River.

Day 2: Santa María – Santa Teresa

On day 2, you will wake up very early to have breakfast and start the trek of the second day. After breakfast you will start to walk along the Vilcanota river bank where you enjoy a wonderful view over the Urubamba Valley. You will be passing by rural communities and agricultural lands with coffee plantations, fruit trees, a great variety of birds and other animals native to the area. For lunch, you will stop at the town of Qellomayo. After lunch you will continue walking to Santa Teresa and the hot springs of Cocalmayo, after 2 days of hiking you will surely relax in the thermal medicinal waters. You will spend the night in the town of Santa Teresa.

Day 3: Santa Teresa – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes

After breakfast you will have the option of doing the Zip Line. Afterwards, you will leave with private transport to Hydroelectric. From this point on you will begin to walk to Aguas Calientes. In Aguas Calientes you will have dinner and spent the night.

Day 4: Machu Picchu

It is worthy and recommended to arrive early to Machu Picchu in order to appreciate the spectacular sunrise. You can either go by bus to Machu Picchu or walk, both options will be without the tour guide. The guide will be waiting for you at the entrance of Machu Picchu, here the group meets to start the tour of the most important places of this archaeological wonder for approximately 2 hours. At the end of the guided tour you will have some time to discover Machu Picchu by yourself by for example visiting Wayna Picchu. In the late afternoon, you will return by train to Ollantaytambo where private transport will await you to take you back to Cusco.
